What your donation covers

Your year-long sponsorship of a student will cover all school fees, uniforms, materials, transportation costs, as well as costs for FUNDAHMER to oversee the program and support students and families. With bi-weekly workshops, check-ins, service experiences, and social events, FUNDAHMER provides an essential service to our scholarship recipients. First of all, they do this by being an example of an educated person for these young people, whose parents have never had the opportunity to go to school themselves. Through its many programs, youth gatherings, and overnight experiences, FUNDAHMER both models and helps young people to develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and life habits to be a successful student and a contributing adult in the life of the community. FUNDAHMER staff members are trained professionals who bring years of experience in community development, education, and emergency relief. Please see the cost breakdown below:

80% of your donation: Scholarships (school fees and all other student costs)
20% of your donation: Workshops, check-ins, youth gatherings, student training, transportation, etc.

Every year of schooling that these kids receive moves them further and further away from the life of poverty to which they are destined without our help. This is the plain truth: without us, the kids you see on this page would not be attending school right now. In fact, everyone one of the kids that are in our program are there because they have been supported by us. This year we celebrated a first: two kids in our program have graduated from high school and will begin college in early 2011. Not only is this a first for Family to Family, but also for the two villages we work with. These are the first high school graduates in either village.

A Few Donation Options to Choose From:

Since we’re all about families, we’ve tried hard to make being a part of Family to Family as flexible as possible. Here are a number of ways you and your family can participate:

Option 1: Full Sponsorship
The annual cost to sponsor a middle-school student is $500.00. The annual cost to sponsor a high-school student is $1000.00. With this option come two choices: you can make a one-time donation, or donate monthly. For a middle-school student, you donate $45.00 per month. For a high-school student, you donate $85.00 per month. If you select option 1, we will pair you with a student from now until the end of 2011, and you will receive quarterly updates and letters from your sponsored student.

Option 2: Half Sponsorship
With this option, you provide a half-scholarship. This could be with a family friend or acquaintance with whom you decide to go in on this together, or someone else who has decided to donate that you may not know. So if you don’t happen to know another family or friend who would want to do this, but you still want to do option two, you donate half the annual scholarship, and we’ll find another family who will be willing to pick up the other half. You and your partner family will be paired with one student for the coming year. With option two, you would donate $250.00 for a middle school student or $500.00 for a high school student. With this option you can still donate monthly if you like, and your monthly donation will be $22.00 for a middle school student and $42.00 for a high school student.

Option 3: One-time Donation
Family to Family is also very happy to accept one-time donations. In this case, we still ask you to choose a student to donate to, and we will put your donation toward his or her overall cost. We will still keep in contact and let you know how your student is doing. But our hope is to connect you to your student over the coming years so that you can keep in contact and continue to be a supportive force in this young person’s life. If making a year-long commitment to this is not possible for you at this time, but you would like to donate anyway, this might be the right option for you.

Here’s what your donation can buy. A 20 dollar donation can mean a backpack, notebooks, and pens. A 40 dollar donation can mean all of that and school uniforms. For 60 dollars, you can ensure that a student can be totally ready to start the school year off right.

Our vision is teamwork

We believe that everyone has something they can contribute. Whatever your gifts are, whatever your talent is, we want to include you and your family in this effort. So let us know what you have to offer. If you can write a check and are able to sponsor a student for a whole year, great! We certainly need that. But if your gifts may lie in other areas, let us know how you can contribute. Family to Family is an all-volunteer organization, so if you want to be a part of us, but the way you can help is other than through funding a student, Please contact us, and we’ll gratefully include you in the work of Family to Family.

Family to Family Foundation is a registered 501c3 organization; therefore, all donations to Family to Family are tax-deductible. All donations go directly to funding the scholarships and the support staff who help our kids succeed.
