After this warm greeting, I want to let you know the motive for writing to you. My family and I are very happy because we are expecting the corn harvest. Recently we celebrated the feasts of our patron saint, St. John the Baptist, in our community. In July we painted a mural in our community and the youth are forming a choir to sing songs and play instruments for our liturgies on Sundays. We hope to have much success in all that we accomplish as teenagers.

I am happy because I am studying in 9th grade and I have good grades. I am looking forward to vacation, so therefore I can spend more time with my family at home. At that time we will finish our school year, and my brother and two cousins will graduate from elementary school and I from 9th grade. I am happy I soon will have finished another academic year. I hope God blesses all of you with rich blessings, especially to you Timoteo (Mr. Broyles), your families, and to all of the students of your school.

Our dear sister community of Brophy, Tim, Paul, and students, receive warm greetings from Brenda Lorenza Ortiz Ortiz!

I hope that this letter finds all of you in good health, that you are having lots of success in the daily labors of your studies and work. I also want to send many greetings to all of the Brophy delegations that have come in the past. I hope God pours down upon you many blessings, wisdom, and even more friends than you have now.

I’m writing to tell you that we had our parish festival in honor of St. John the Baptist on the 22 of June. There was a cultural festival, a dance of los emplumados (the feathered ones), and afterward we had a piñata, movies about the civil war in El Salvador and our community’s return from the refugee camps in Honduras. On the 23rd we had tamales and coffee at dawn, and then at 8:30am we had mass. Then we had a soccer tournament and then later that night we had a dance and the mayor of our region crowned the girl that won the queen of the festival.

We are making a mural and it is in three parts: the past, the present, and the future. This work is being done by the congregation of women and I tell you that I am painting as well and that it is very beautiful. I hope that next year you can see it. The first part of the mural shows what it was like when we first came back from Honduras, the second shows what things are like now here and the third shows what we want to have in our community in the future.

I also want to tell you that I am doing very well in school. My grades are good, and I have a uniform and a pair of school shoes. We are waiting on another pair but they haven’t been made yet.

I hope God blesses all of the families of the world and each of you as well as us, and that God grants you much prosperity. With that I will say my goodbyes by telling you that I always think of you.

Please receive a cordial greeting as we hope you are having much success in your work back in the US. My motive for sending this letter is to let you know a little about my studies. I am in 9th grade, and I am studying thanks to your help since my family does not have the resources so that my friends and I can continue in school. Thanks to you we have the hopes of become professionals and having a better future. Truly, from the bottom of my heart I am thankful for all that you do, since in our country we do not have the scholarships necessary to help the poorest of our society. By helping the poor of our country we can have a better quality of life.

I want to thank our brotherhood with Brophy College Preparatory, especially Timoteo (Mr. Tim Broyles), and Paulo (Mr. Paul Fisko), for helping our community and for the visits they had made with the students who saw our needs. Thank you for the scholarship that allows me to study and continue on my path forward. I hope to put all of my effort to reach my goals.

Also, the corn harvest in our town of La Hacienda is very good this year. Some of the homes already have corn to eat, and some have taken corn to make fresh corn tamales. I give to you all many hugs and hope for good health for all the students of Brophy, the teachers and everyone else in your community. I hope that you are working hard in your studies like we are here in El Salvador.

Hello friends at our sister community of Brophy College Preparatory. I hope that you are all doing well with your friends and family. We wish you success now and in the future and that god always bless you.
It makes me very happy that you visited us. And for us, we felt very happy with your presence. Well now I am leaving the ninth grade. I have gone through many difficulties to arrive at this stage. I have always enjoyed setting and achieving goals and the ninth grade is no exception. There were 24 of my peers at the begingin of my education. Only 15 have made it to this point and it is sad that there are so many young people without this level education. I hope that providence guide them.

I like to have fun with all my friends. Perhaps our class has sometimes been mischievous but we have always tried to behave well. In a little bit we will be going on vacation for a week and then we will return to our studies.

For my part, I thank you all for your support because it is such a great benefit to us. Thank you and may you always persevere.

It is a pleasure to say hello from my family and me. I thank God for you helping me with a scholarship so I can continue to learn. I also wanted to let you know that I am studying in the 9th grade in my school Flor del Muerto. My name is Santos David Luna and I live in the community of El Junquillo.

I am in a youth group where we meet up every Saturday to discuss religious topics and also topics about the reality that we are living in El Salvador, not only with our own community, but also different groups of different communities where they give workshops that help us in getting ahead. My family is thankful that you are helping me so that can I can have a good future. I also want to thank you for giving me this scholarship that allows me to get to my school and also to buy the supplies I need for school so that in the future I can be someone important in the community or in other places so that I can help people.

Firstly, I would want to thank you for your influence and help in the scholarship program. This year I will graduate the ninth grade. I am very excited because this is the first time I have had a graduation. I am so grateful to God and all of you for this because it has changed so much for me. I would like to tell you about a youth group that I belong to in the village of El Junquillo. The group is called Youth of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is a very important group in our village because we share experiences and themes in our lives. We also have birthday parties for our group members. Our group also joins with other youth groups from different communities.

A special greeting to “Timoteo” (Tim Broyles) who visits me and my family every year. I have fond memories of him and the people who come to visit with him. We had a lot of fun dancing in La Hacienda. I am super happy that you all came to visit El Junquillo. Whenever you come to visit we will greet you with open arms. I will always remember all of you guys. Greetings to your parents and thank you for the help you have given me. I am incredibly grateful.
